Spring 2009 Update

Summit participants leading bible school outside Monterrey Mexico

Spring is arriving quickly here in Bass Lake, CA and we are preparing for another exciting summer of ministry.

This winter at Summit we have been blessed with some amazing ministry opportunities.  January saw the second 16 week Immersion Service and Adventure Semester (ISAS) get underway, a Wilderness Journey Backpacking Course in Death Valley, CA with Montreat College, and a Service and Adventure Course in Monterrey, Mexico with Alderson-Broaddus College.

In February Summit had the opportunity to facilitate 3 different workshops for college students at the Coalition for Christian Outreach’s Jubilee 2009 Conference in Pittsburgh, PA.  The workshop on Spiritual Formation alone had over 80 college students attend.

March was filled with three powerful international courses.  Pepperdine University and their Project Serve program along with The University of San Diego Outdoor Programs participated in our Service and Mountaineering Courses in Ecuador.  March then came to a close with some warm weather on a Service and Adventure spring break course in Monterrey, Mexico.

We are welcoming the warmer weather in April leading a 5 day Facilitation Training with The Mission Society as the ISAS students return from their time in Ecuador and prepare for their wilderness expedition. Mixed in this busy schedule we have presented at 9 different colleges and universities to promote the ongoing ministry of Summit Adventure.

“Service… to me is a condition of the heart, maybe a condition of the soul.  It is a way of being, open-hearted and without expectation.  It is loving, infinitely and unconditionally.  It is being fully present.  It is giving of yourself whole-heartedly, without reserve or expectation of return.”

“This afternoon we took a flight in a bush plane out into the jungle where we were given a small tour and a very great welcome by the Waurani people who live in the little village called Tiweano. We listened to singing and saw some spontaneous dancing in praise of God. When we first arrived, we were taken down a muddy path to a small church. Inside we were met by a very old man named Dewy. His earlobes were stretched long from years of wearing wooden plugs which he no longer wore. He was one of the oldest people in the community and he welcomed us, prayed fervently over us and shook our hands. He was one of the people involved in the spearing of the 5 missionaries back in the 50s here in Shell. It was a beautiful visit.”
