Youth Rock Climbing Expedition

Description

Day 1:  Introductions, Gear Pack, Establish Camp
Participants will arrive in Bass Lake at the Summit Adventure base, where instructors will facilitate group introductions. The morning will entail checking gear and packing up for the days ahead. After a hearty lunch, we will drive to the trailhead where we will backpack to our basecamp location.  We will set up camp, and return to this location each night.

Day 2:  Support School, Anchor Building and Climbing Safety
After a short hike to climbing areas ‘The Muffin’ or ‘Genesis Wall,’ Summit Adventure instructors will refresh the group on support school and how to climb safely.  We will climb most of the day, with an introduction on how to build a climbing anchor after lunch.

Day 3:  More Climbing!  Afternoon Swim at Lower Jackass Lake
This morning will be an opportunity for students to push the limits and try some more difficult climbs at a new crag.  In the afternoon we will have the option to hike to Jackass Lake for a swim, or just keep climbing.

Day 4:  Morning Rappel, Skills Review, Pack-up Camp
In the morning participants will learn another important skill of rock climbing with a 150ft overhanging rappel of ‘The Prow.’  We’ll then have a chance to review what we learned throughout the course before we pack up camp and depart back to Summit Adventure.
